Once we meet people and make friends, it is important to maintain those friendships.
It is important to be mindful of others when interacting with them. If we recall the definition of mindfulness, it is being completely focused and present in the current moment. Our attention is not divided among different activities or conversations. We are focused on and interested in the present conversation.
In interactions with others, it is valuable to be non-judgmental and agreeable. We want to make the interaction fun and pleasant for everyone. Listen to others and validate their opinions. It is not necessary to argue, belittle, or one-up them.
In group settings, it is skillful to go along with the group or “go with the flow.” The alternative is being a “killjoy” or a “party-pooper.” Of course, this assumes that the group activity aligns with our value system. We have to use our best judgment regarding safety issues or staying true to our values.
