It has been encouraging to hear reports of efforts with the independent use of the thought record. It truly is a powerful tool, and a few people have reported how a small change in thinking produced significant and positive outcomes in feelings and behavior.
Have you been paying attention to your thoughts this week? Our thoughts inform our feelings/mood and subsequent reactions. And the most empowering part of this whole process is that we can control our thoughts!
Once we have a thought in awareness (this is mindfulness), we can evaluate the validity of the thought. Is this thought true? Or partially true? Or weighted to justify one side of an argument? From there, we can develop an alternative thought. Additionally, we can re-frame negative thoughts into positive ones (this is coming up). We all have the ability to change our thinking!
It will take repetition to change old habits–especially deep-rooted beliefs. Do not give up on this.
“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”
